Rome Group is furthering globalization, reciprocity and the substantial equivalency of systems of accreditation and credit in Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional Development (CME/CPD). The “Rome Group Document” lays the foundation for CME/CPD harmonization, by setting common standards for learners, organizers and providers, and accrediting organizations.
To ensure scientific validity and objectivity in CME/CPD, Rome Group is building a blue print for unbiased commercial support for CME/CPD activities in Europe. Guidelines include how provider organizations can achieve independence in the development and delivery of activities, disclosures relevant to potential conflict of interest, management of associated commercial activities and how to allocate CME/CPD credits.
Rome Group defines distance learning, establishes a criteria for approval, and methodologies for application and evaluation.
To establish a common international language in CME/CPD, Rome Group defines key terms in the field, from accreditation and compliance, to programme and provider.
