Rome Group meetings are held on an annual basis, unifying experts and decision makers from around the world in Continuing Medical Education/Continuing Professional Development (CME/CPD).
The first Rome Group meeting – “USA-EU: Sharing the Educational Effort” – was held in Milan, Italy, in March, 2003. The meeting was a major milestone for global CME, as it was attended by chief representatives of the Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Italian Ministry of Health’s CME Commission, Italian Federation of Scientific Medical Societies (FISM), as well as other international societies.
The second meeting brought the group to Rome, Italy, in October, 2003, where foundations were laid to establish common ground on the reciprocity of CME/CPD credits. The group has since then expanded to include representatives from additional EU countries, and has solidified under its official name, “Rome Group,” as it now meets annually in Rome.
Past Rome Group Agenda Topics:
- Global CME/CPD Harmonization
- Guidelines for Commercial Support of CME/CPD Activities in Europe
